Since your disk is not full (I presume you have only one partition on the disk), you may have a a corrupted file system.

What that message seems to be saying is that your system is running out of RAM and it can't write RAM out to the swap file. Of course, your solution might be different!

An easy way is to use Onyx (free) from here: Empty caches, in case there's something corrupt causing a problem. If there are errors, how you fix them depends on which version of OS X you have.
